Owner & ArtBeat teacher Kids & Adult, Classroom Art Teacher & Art Camp Director Kristel started ArtBeat in 2013. She wanted to provide an artistic outlet to adults and kids centered around the heart & soul, as she feels this is the birthplace of creative expression. Kristel's mission with ArtBeat is to offer instructional based artistic experiences with wiggle room for creativity. Kristel believes that having time to play, be creative, and explore is what makes people happy, regardless of their age. In her free time, Kristel is an avid kayaker, hiker, animal lover & adventurist. She loves to travel and has visited Thailand, Guatemala, Ecuador, England, France, Australia, and Africa. |
Glenda Boe
ArtBeat Teacher: Kids Events & potion parties Glenda is a dynamic art teacher that primarily focuses on ArtBeat kids events. A self taught artist, Glenda believes everyone has the ability to shine as an artist, given a bit of instruction and practice. Glenda finds joy in helping children express themselves through creative projects, while also offering easy to follow techniques to enhance their artistic ability. Glenda enjoys all things crafty! In addition to painting, Glenda spends her free time scrap booking, beading, and gardening. Glenda is the mother of ArtBeat teacher, Kristel Boe, and has taught Kristel everything she knows about patience, kindness and helping others. |
Zoey Kleiber
ArtBeat Teacher, Kids & teen events, classroom art teacher & art camp counselor Originally from a small farm town in Wisconsin, Zoey moved to San Diego in 2018 to study Studio Art at SDSU. In her studies, her main concentrations have been life drawing and sculpture. However, she also enjoys illustration, graphic design, jewelry making and photography. A recent graduate of SDSU, Zoey is a natural art teacher to kids and teens and enjoys finding new ways to express herself creatively and artistically. |
Marisol Abbot
ArtBeat Teacher: Kids & Adult Events Bi-lingual/Spanish Speaking Marisol is a self-taught artist who finds inspiration in the natural world. Many of her works include images of animals, nature, and the divine feminine. She mainly enjoys painting with acrylics, but loves to experiment in different mediums. An English teacher by trade, she has combined her love of art with her teaching skills. She believes that art is an outlet of individual expression & anyone can find the artist within. Before settling in San Diego about eight years ago, she lived in many different places including Chile, Italy, and Japan. Her passions include painting, crafting, hiking, camping, gardening, reading, traveling & playing with her dog and cat. |
Lashay Garnett
ArtBeat Teacher: Kids & Teen Events San Diego native, Lashay Garnett has been an art lover her entire life. When she isn’t creating fun activities for her younger siblings, she is hiking with her dogs and loves being in nature. She is a licensed estetician & owner of Terra’s Oasis. Lashay is very knowledgeable in energy work, certified in Reiki Level 1 and is soon to be certified in Level 2. Lashay is a patient, peaceful and fun art teacher for kids & teens! |
Emily Michaels
ArtBeat Teacher: Kids & Adult Events Emily is a self taught artist who has been practicing different art forms since she was a kid. Her passion is drawing and painting animals and her main focus was horses for the longest time. Emily is always open to exploring new mediums but mainly focuses her attention in mediums like colored pencil, charcoal, pastel, watercolor, acrylic, and oil painting. Emily has been teaching step by step painting classes on and off for the past 5 years and loves to bring her creative energy and passion to those who attend her classes. Her high energy and fun loving personality makes her art classes not only educational but super enjoyable. |
Rachael Bertholino
ArtBeat Teacher: Kids & Adult Events Rachael is a bright soul and artist born and raised here in San Diego. Her favorite mediums are painting with oil and watercolor, and sculpting with clay and glass. After living in Europe for 6 years she studied painting and psychology in Miami. Rachael finished her formal education with a master’s degree in clinical social work from Boston University. When she’s not making art or helping others do so, Rachael enjoys local beach days with her daughter and husband, and traveling to new places. She is fluent in Italian and also speaks French! |
Heather Birrcher
ArtBeat Teacher, Camp Co-Teacher, classroom Teacher After many years of art training, Heather earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design at Savannah College of Art and Design. After school she enjoyed being an animal portrait artist. She has had the honor of hand painting on canvas over two hundred best furry friends in her colorful and bold style. Heather also traveled and sold her work in many juried art fairs around the country, including, the prestigious Affair in Gardens show in Beverly Hills and the local Mission Federal ArtWalk in Little Italy. Heather now lives in the La Mesa Village and adores being part of such a vibrant area. She also enjoys volunteering with the Lemon Avenue Elementary PTA as an Art Docent for her daughter’s class. Heather looks forward to participating in many more creative projects in her community. |
Sybil Park
Art Enrichment Teacher Art has been one of Sybil’s greatest passions for as long as she can remember. She enjoys creating bright, expressionistic pieces using primarily acrylics and inspired by the places she has traveled. She is a Southern California native and lives with her family of 5 in the city of La Mesa. Before teaching art in the schools for over a year with ArtSmarts, Inc., she hosted her own backyard art camp (Backyard Palette) and has many years experience as a school psychologist. Sybil is very excited to also have the opportunity to work with Art Beat and continue the important work of sharing Art with school age children in San Diego. Sybil’s other interests include running an Airstream Airbnb on her property, gardening, cooking, Pilates, Yoga, attending her daughter’s sporting events and spending time with family. |
